Painted Floorcloths

These are painted on heavy canvas duck. The back is primed, painted a solid colour, and sealed.

The front is primed, and the finished artwork is sealed with several coats of the appropriate finish. The edges are cut, painted and sealed.

My floorcloths are extremely durable, flexible, and hold up well in areas of heavy foot traffic. Floorcloths need to be placed on hard surfaces like tile, wood or marble, where they will usually self adhere to the floor. In some situations, double stick tape can be used to keep them from moving, or to prevent the corners from being kicked up.

Two of my floorcloths are featured in this book:

''The book starts with the history of floor cloths then discusses their creation, my favorites being Alan Vaughn's Circular CDR with Spokes and Pamela Marwede's Lily Pond. I found the book to be solid and generous in its instructions and ideas. A floorcloth would make a wonderful addition to any house, in any room. Floorcloth Magic truly is a wonderful addition to any crafter's or artist's library. It's the kind of book that has to be shared. I heartily recommend it."

The second image shows the floorcloth still stretched and hanging on the studio wall before being taken down for trimming.

The reflective paints make the fish seem to shimmer and change colour as the light changes in the room.
